As the apostle Paul approaches this section of his letter, we see his desire for the spiritual vibrancy of the church rise to the surface. And what is it that we, the people of God in 2026, need to return to over and over in order to be the people that God longs for us to be?

Each new year provides the opportunity to assess what direction you are headed and what type of person you are becoming. In Psalm 1, we learn what it means to be a spiritually evergreen oak: deeply rooted in God’s Word, unshaken by life’s storms, and bearing fruit that lasts. The world produces chaff. God produces oaks—through Jesus Christ, the one who perfectly lived this way and now shares His righteousness with all who trust Him. This Sunday, we’ll explore the blessedness and fruitfulness that come from delighting in God’s Word.

This letter to the Hebrews is one large exhortation about the sufficiency and excellency of Christ. In the closing chapter of the book, we find various encouragements about how to effectively navigate the kingdom of God, in light of Christ’s person and work. Those who claim the name of Christ are to be principled in their actions. Accordingly, Christians make the earthly pilgrimage, through Christ, in terms of praise, doing good, and sharing what we have.

Similar to those who were with Jesus before His crucifixion, our hearts are troubled by many disappointments, disillusionments, and fears. This is a constant daily experience for many of us. But should it be? In this passage, the encouragement Jesus offers in response for all who love Him is a deeper experience of Himself, His Father, and His Spirit that overshadows even the most troubled hearts. Is intimacy with God possible? If so, how do we enjoy it?
